What are the difference between continuous disclosure and periodic reporting (more frequent reporting) such as quarterly reporting?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of continuous disclosure?

Is it better in Australia to continue full continuous disclosure or adopt the United States approach of periodic quarterly reporting?
