History 100

As illustrated by Olympe de Gouges “Declaration of the Rights of Woman” (available at https://chnm.gmu.edu/revolution/d/293/) the French Revolution opened up the door to discussing women’s rights, nonetheless these discussions had little effect. Drawing on de Gouges’s declaration as well as other documents and readings explain why the French Revolution led to reconsidering women’s place in society and why Feminists like de Gouges had such difficulty persuading men of the need to recognize women as equals.
