I want you to find a pencil. Just a regular wooden pencil. Nothing mechanical or plastic.

I want you to place that pencil in front of you. Look at it. Examine it. Think about the pencil. (I’m being serious)

What does that pencil represent? What does it mean? What does the development of a pencil mean for society? For an individual? For a community? Can a pencil disrupt a society? A culture? A system? How does a pencil represent technology? Is a pencil a technology? Are there multiple technologies in the pencil? 

Please allow for sufficient time in reflecting upon these questions. Craft your response and provide narratives to support.
